Nine Ontario-bred 2-year-olds sold for $852,000 combined, averaging $94,666 apiece, at this week’s OBS June Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale at the OBS Sales Grounds in Ocala, FL.

The group was led by Hip #827, a Medaglia d’Oro colt out of Season Ticket that sold for $400,000 to D. J. Stable, LLC on Thursday (June 18) during the closing session of the three-day auction. The colt (shown, OBS Sale photo) was bred by Godolphin and John Ropes.

Three of the nine Ontario-bred horses sold are also Ontario-sired. Hip #151, a Souper Speedy filly out of Bright Lights Up, bred by Borders Racing Stable Ltd., sold for $50,000 to Taproot Bloodstock, agent for Catherine Day Phillips, on Tuesday (June 16). On Friday, Hip #827, a Point of Entry colt out of Oxhilirating, bred by Godolphin and John Ropes, sold for $50,000 to Phillips’ agent Taproot and Hip #772, a Frac Daddy colt out of Ravenist, bred by Michael Byrne of Ontario, sold for $20,000 (private sale) to Hidden Brook, agent.

The other Ontario-bred sold were as follows:

  • Hip #81 – Charlatan filly out of Atlantic Voyage, bred by Hill ‘N’ Dale Equine Holdings, Inc. of Ontario, sold for $120,000 to MyRacehorse.com and Stamatis Stables LLC
  • Hip #297 – Girvin filly out of Evening Wind, bred by Tara Horse Farm Inc. of Ontario, sold for $100,000 (private sale) to Fahad Aloraini
  • Hip #408 – Bolt d’Oro filly out of Golden Coast, bred by Ballycroy Bloodstock of Ontario, for $110,000 to Joseph Klausa
  • Hip #622 – Maclean’s Music filly out of Moonlit Promise, bred by Hill ‘N’ Dale Equine Holding, Inc., Kotpil Inc. and Windsor Boys of Ontario for $120,000 to Rodolphe Brisset
  • Hip #953 – Independence Hall colt out of Tiptoe, bred by Apricot Valley Thoroughbreds, for $2,000 to Phil Hall

The sale produced records for gross ($28,551,500) and average ($50,894). Ontario-breds averaged more than double the sale average.
