TORONTO, February 8, 2023 – Three Ontario Bred colts, Moon Landing, Kalik, and Equivoque have been nominated to the 2023 Triple Crown series, which begins with the 149th Kentucky Derby pres. by Woodford Reserve on Saturday May 6, 2023.
Among the three, Moon Landing leads the way in earnings with over $60,000 CAD banked thanks to an impressive four-length maiden special weight score at Woodbine in his lone start as a two-year-old.
The son of Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist was bred Anderson Farms and Rod Ferguson Farms. He fetched $200,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
He is owned by Robert V. LaPenta, e Five Racing Thoroughbreds and Madaket Stables, and trained by Woodbine based trainer Kevin Attard.
The same ownership group also owns Kalik, who made two starts as a freshman. His best effort was a second-place result at the Belmont at the Big A meet, where he finished behind stakes winner Bat Flip.
Chad Brown trains the son of Collected, who was bred by Peter A. Berglar Racing Interests and Anderson Farms.
Rounding out the Ontario contingent from this first round of nominations is unraced Equivoque. By Good Magic Equivoque was bred by Jay and Christine Hayden’s Saintsbury Farms. He is owned by China Horse Farm, and trained by Todd Pletcher.
